Fugitive’s sister, boyfriend arrested for giving shelter

Pushpa and Ravikumar had visited Manjunath about 15 days prior to his escape
BENGALURU: Providing shelter to a fugitive landed his sister and her boyfriend in jail after the police found out that the convict had directly gone to his sister’s house after escaping from the jail. Manjuanth, 30, a murder case convict and a native of Chitradurga, had walked out of the Central jail on April 10 evening.
The Parappana Agrahara police, who have taken up a case and are launched a manhunt, have arrested Manjunath’s sister Pushpa, 28, and her boyfriend Ravikumar, 25, both residents of Veerasandra.
Police said that after Manjunath’s escape they went through the visitors’ log book in the prison and found out that Pushpa and Ravikumar had visited Manjunath about 15 days prior to his escape. “It also came to light that the duo visited Manjunath very often. It was revealed that Manjunath had made his first call to her soon after the escape. As she did not pick the call, he had called Ravikumar. Thus, the duo was picked up for questioning,” the police said.
“They revealed that Manjunath who called Ravikumar asked him him to pick up from a location. After this the duo went to Pushpa’s house. Manjunath reportedly told them that he had come out on parole and stayed there for a night. The next morning, even before Pushpa woke up, Manjunath had reportedly left the house without informing her,” the police added.
“Pushpa said that she was told by Manjunath that he was depressed in life and would commit suicide after meeting one of their uncles. The accused duo claimed they do not know where Manjunath has gone. As they had given shelter to the fugitive, they were arrested under IPC section 224 (resistance or obstruction to lawful apprehension of another person). The duo was remanded in judicial custody,” the police said.
