S Ramadoss: Rename road leading to Sivanthi Athithan’s memorial
Dr Ramadoss said that he had provided free education
Chennai: PMK founder Dr S. Ramadoss appealed to state government to rename the road leading to Sivanthi Athithan memorial house from Radhakrishnan Salai after the late proprietor of Daily Thanthi newspaper whose second anniversary falls on Sunday.
In a statement released here on Saturday, Dr Ramadoss recalled Sivanthi Athithan's contribution to the development of sports in Tamil Nadu. "Whenever I look at the South Asian Federation (SAF) games village at Koyambedu it reminds me of how Athithan worked hard to make the games a grand success. One cannot forget his valuable inputs as president of the Indian Olympic Association, vice-president of the Asian Olympic Council and head of various other sports bodies for the growth of sports in India," he said.
Citing examples of how Sivanthi Athithan had made an outstanding contribution to the field of education in the state, Dr Ramadoss said that he had provided free education to several deserving poor students in his educational institutions across the state.
He had instituted various awards to honour toppers in class X and XII board exams. Pointing out that he had also been instrumental in constructing the 178 feet gopuram (monumental tower) of the 200-year-old Viswanathar temple in Tenkasi, the PMK founder said that he had helped renovate several dilapidated temples in the state. It would be befitting to rename the road leading to Sivanthi Athithan memorial house from Radhakrishnan Salai after the late media baron, Dr Ramadoss said.
