No place to park, but police continue to fine
No-parking zones come up all over city
Hyderabad: In a paradoxical situation, the traffic police is issuing a large number of challans for wrong parking to motorists across the city but the vehicle owners have no option for parking.
Motorists are a harassed lot with practically no parking slots or open spaces in the busy stretches of the city. Traffic police while acknowledging the problem continue to issue challans for ‘obstructive parking’.
Officials say that since there is an issue of parking spaces, they will be considerate but vehicles should not be parked in a manner obstructing passage. Currently, traffic police is going ahead with enforcement of traffic rules in a big way and has stepped up collection of pending fines.
With the strict enforcement, ‘wrong parking violation’ notices are being sent by the dozen making many unhappy. “I have been given a wrong parking challan for parking in a by lane of the hill fort road. The area did not even have a ‘no parking’ board. How can I understand where to park? Moreover, there is not a single paid parking area around where I could have parked. It’s unfair to slap a wrong parking notice under such conditions,” said an agitated Varun Mishra.
Stretches like Punjagutta to Khairatabad, around BRK Bhavan and GHMC, Banjara Hills Road No 1, Mehdipatnam main road, Lakdikapul to Masab Tank among others are extremely difficult when it comes to finding parking spaces.
“Since there is an issue of adequate parking spaces, we are considerate in not imposing fines on all vehicles which are parked on the sides of the road but people need to understand that obstructive parking will be fined. Parking on congested main roads is not allowed. While parking in by lanes, people need to be careful that the vehicle should not obstruct the carriageway,” said the additional commissioner of police (Traffic), Jitender.
