ID liquor sellers attack excise constable
The police has started a probe into the incident
Hyderabad: Tension gripped the Saidabad Singareni colony after some ID liquor sellers attacked an excise constable and locked him up in a room. They also attacked a police informer and lodged a false complaint with the emergency services against the duo accusing them of assaulting women in the area. A police team reached the spot and rescued the victims.
The police has started a probe into the incident. There were similar incidents in the past in which cops and excise men were injured in attacks by liquor sellers. Police said that on Friday night, the informer P. Suresh, who lives in the area, called an excise official to inform about a truck coming from Dhoolpet to the colony carrying liquor. Following the alert, excise constable G. Ganesh went to the colony. However, the bootleggers caught him.
“They confined him to a room and attacked the informer. Then they called dial 100 and complained that the duo misbehaved with women. They also alleged the official was drunk. After we rescued the official, we sent him for a check-up to find out if he was drunk. The medical test said he was sober,” said Saidabad inspector A. Srinivasulu.
When the police probed the complaint of the locals against the excise official and the informer they found inconsistencies. “They threatened them that they would lodge a rape and SC/ST atrocity complaint against him if he comes to the area again. They also sought money from his mother. So, it appears that it was a blackmail attempt to stop excise surveillance,” said the inspector. Police accepted complaints from both parties and is probing the matter.
the ID liquor sellers and from the excise official regarding the issue. "We have started an investigation into the claims of both the parties," said the inspector.
