Rich colony, poor amenities
Civic body, water board give a deaf ear to the complaints in NRI colony
Hyderabad:The six-year-old Golden Heights NRI colony, situated near Pillar No. 213 PVNR, Rajendranagar is completely neglected by GHMC and HMWS&SB and the electricity department. The people who had bought property at prices as high as Rs 40,000 per square yard, thinking the locality is near the International Airport and will be developed at par with the new city, however six years down the line the colony has no proper roads, no drainage system and no sweepers as well. With great difficulty the few connecting roads were developed recently with a budget of Rs 1.25 crore. However, even that has gone to the dogs with constant digging.
K.S Hasan, vice-president of the colony says, “There are 400 plots , 200 have been occupied , 90 per cent of the residents are NRIs, doctors, artist, poets. There are close to 150 families in the colony. Firstly, we do not have a proper drainage system. Four years back they laid the drainage pipeline in a haphazard manner. It was installed above the tap connection and several times owing to digging both the pipes have been damaged.
There is no outlet in case of heavy rains the whole colony with be submerged in drain water. Secondly, the colony does not have sweepers, the residents pay a private contractor to clean the roads despite paying tax. ” “The street lights are dysfunctional, it took the GHMC three years to develop 12 colony connecting roads, there are many accidents owing to bad roads and it is worst in the rainy season. The electrical lines are dangling and in case of strong winds it touches the tress,” added General Secretary of the colony M.D. Ammenuddin.
