Oil tanker strike: Bengaluru city runs out of gas

It was chaos at petrol bunks in the city on Friday

Bengaluru: It was chaos at petrol bunks in the city on Friday as supplies of petrol and diesel were affected following a strike by petrol tanker drivers after villagers attacked them at Anugondanahalli on the way to Indian Oil Corporation at Devanagundi near Hoskote.

On Thursday evening, one of the tankers was involved in an accident, triggering protests by the villagers. With Karnataka bandh too planned for Saturday, vehicle users were apprehensive that petrol bunks would remain closed and rushed to the pumps.

Later in the evening, Indian Oil Corporation officials said the issue had been resolved with the villagers, and the tankers had started rolling towards the city. With no fresh supplies, most of the petrol bunks had run out of stocks by Friday evening.
