Magistrate N V Raju deposes Saritha was raped

Administrative wing of HC decided to remove N.V. Raju from the promotion list
Kochi: Controversial magistrate N. V. Raju on Friday deposed before the Solar Judicial Commission that Saritha had a specific case that she was subjected to rape by somebody.
Meanwhile administrative wing of High Court decided to remove N.V. Raju from the promotion list of district judges. He was facing a High Court vigilance probe in connection with Solar case and the court had issued Memo of Charges against the magistrate.
Mr Raju, the Economic Offences Court judge when Saritha sensationally made a statement in a closed courtroom while in police custody in July 2013, said he asked her to file a written statement since her statements were mostly unrelated to the cheating case.
He submitted that she revealed several names but he didn't record them as they were strangers to him. Kerala Congress (B) leader R. Balakrishna Pillai told the commission that the letter she displayed before reporters recently was the actual one. But he couldn’t reveal names.
Mr Raju's deposition was quite similar to the one he made before the Vigilance wing of Kerala High Court. He also submitted that DySP Harikrishnan visited his office on the day and asked whether she revealed any names. He redirected him to the filing section.
He refused to answer many questions of lawyer K. Ramakumar, appearing for complainant BJP leader K. Surendran, saying he has the privilege of a judicial officer.
Mr Pillai submitted that the initial complainant Sreedharan Nair met Chief Minister Oommen Chandy with the scam accused who had financial transactions with CM's aide Thomas Kuruvilla.
NGT notice to state
The Tribunal has also asked the state governments to come up with suggestions to combat air pollution in the respective states. The Tribunal had earlier stayed for two weeks its order to impound more than 10 year old diesel vehicles, heavy or light, plying in the national capital. On April 7 it had held that all diesel vehicles which were over 10 years will not be permitted to ply in Delhi-NCR. The Tribunal had banned all vehicles which were more than 15 years old from plying on the city roads.
