Health minister to be impleaded in suicide case

The Guduvanchery police registered a case and arrested Mohankrishnan
Chennai: A petition has been filed in the Madras HC seeking to implead health minister C. Vijaya Baskar as party in a case relating to the mysterious death of an advocate. When the matter came up before Justice M. Sathyanarayanan on Friday, he said petitioner M. Manoharan of Mayiladuthurai could implead the minister as party in the matter.
The petitioner submitted that his only son M. Tamilvanan was a practising advocate in Madras HC.
G. Mohankrishnan reportedly drove his son to commit suicide. The Guduvanchery police registered a case and arrested Mohankrishnan on March 31, 2015. Saying that he was unwell, Mohankrishnan got admitted to the ICU of government Royapettah hospital.
The petitioner has alleged that Mohankrishnan was admitted to the hospital as he was close to minister Vijaya Baskar. He also sent a legal notice to the hospital’s resident medical officer with regard to the actual health condition.
Meanwhile, Madras HC dismissed the plea of Mohankrishnan seeking to continue treatment in hospital. On April 1, 2015, the additional government pleader informed the court that the accused was making the plea hoping to stay away from prison.
Subsequently, principal district and sessions court, Chengalpet, dismissed his bail plea. However, he has been kept in hospital. The medical officer informed Manoharan that the health minister directed the hospital authorities to keep him in the convict ward.
Despite a court order, the police refused to move the accused to prison and he continued to enjoy all facilities in the hospital. While allowing the petitioner to implead the minister, Justice Sathyanarayanan directed the authorities to submit his medical records to the court and adjourned the hearing to June 23.
