Actor Rajendra Prasad wins MAA elections

The actor won by a huge margin, edging out Jayasudha by 85 votes
Hyderabad: Rajendra Prasad defeated Jayasudha by a margin of 85 votes to become president of the Movie Artistes Association (MAA). Out of 702, only 394 votes were polled of which Rajendra Prasad got 237 while Jayasudha got 152 votes.
With Friday’s results, the drama surrounding the MAA elections for the last two months finally ended. From the time Rajendra Prasad had announced that he would contest, followed by Jayasudha, artistes had split into two factions, each accusing the other.
Small-time actor O. Kalyan meanwhile approached the courts, complaining of violations in the election process. Though the elections were held on March 29, the winner wasn’t declared due to the legal process.
After being declared the winner, Rajendra Prasad said: “Everybody knows what happened in the last few days. Though many people put up hurdles, I was voted the winner. This is the first time in MAA history that someone got such a huge majority. The Telugu people were eagerly waiting for this result and I am dedicating this win to them.”
“I don’t want to take money from the MAA. I will work to fulfill my promises,” he adds.
While Rajendra Prasad had garnered the support of Nagababu and a few small actors like Kadambari Kiran and Sivaji Raja, Jayasudha had the support of biggies like Krishnam Raj, Murali Mohan, Krishna, Naresh Sr. and many others. And that’s why the elections results came as a surprise to many.
