Andhra Pradesh cancels 800 owner quota admissions
Hyderabad: The AP government has cancelled the admissions of nearly 800 students who were admitted to private engineering colleges under the management quota.
The admissions were revoked in colleges which violated the guidelines laid down by the AP High Court (in 2007) and for lack of transparency in admitting students. The AP State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) had issued show cause notices to engineering colleges after a committee appointed by it found glaring deficiencies in admissions.
Show cause notices were issued by APSCHE to nearly 20 private engineering colleges for violating Category B admission norms. The committee also recommended the cancellation of 778 management quota admissions in 18 private colleges.
In many colleges, admissions were given to students from Bihar and Jharkhand as their governments provide fee reimbursement for management quota. Colleges are also required to admit management quota students on the basis of merit and the list of all students should also be uploaded online. But most of the colleges didn’t do this.
APSCHE officials said that the colleges couldn't even produce documents to allow the APSCHE to verify the admission process. Engineering colleges also didn't issue newspaper notifications intimating the admission to the public or gave notifications in the district editions of regional dailies indicating they had already selected students for their colleges. Officials said the admission details of more engineering colleges are being verified and action would soon be initiated against them too.
