Monkey trick shorts signals, trains hit
Warangal: Several trains running between Vijayawada and Hyderabad were delayed by four hours after monkeys caused a short circuit in the signalling system at the Elugur railway station in Sangem mandal.
The problem began at about 7 am on Wednesday when monkeys were running amok on the cables near the Elugur railway station, about 25 km from Warangal.
Railway officials suspect two wires came in contact when the monkeys were swinging from them, causing the short circuit that took the signalling system out of action.
With this, the passengers travelling in the early morning trains, especially those who were heading to work, were put to inconvenience. Most passengers waited for the trains to start running, though some made their way on their own.
“First the train stopped for some time in Gundratimadugu and then got halted at Mahabubabad. We were told there was a technical glitch in the signalling system.” said a passenger travelling in the Sata-vahana Express.
Following the incident, the the Vijayawada-Sec-underabad Satavahana Express and the Mumbai-Bhubaneshwar Konark Express were stopped at Mahabubabad, the Sim-hapuri Express in Nekkonda and the Tamil Nadu Express in Kesa-mudram.
Due to the delay, the Secunderabad-bound Simhapuri Express reached Warangal station four hours late. Several other long distance trains were halted at various stations between Maha-bubabad and Warangal. Officials rushed technicians from Warangal to rectify the problem and after three hours the signalling system got restored.
