Andhra Pradesh bans entry of Telangana chicken

The Telangana Poultry Breeders Association said they are facing a loss of over Rs 50 crore

Hyderabad: With the outbreak of bird flu in TS, the AP government has moved swiftly to check its spread into its borders and imposed a ban on entry of poultry and its products from Telangana. Officials of the AP Animal Husbandry, Transport Department and Medical and Health Department jointly conducted a meeting and took the decision to ban the entry of poultry from TS into AP. The officials alerted the district authorities to stop poultry products from Telangana.

“We have told the transport department to stop the movement of poultry and its products from TS into AP. We have also deployed our staff, joint teams who are checking the entry points connecting TS and AP borders,” an official said.

Authorities in TS said an estimated 1.45 lakh birds are being culled to contain the bird flu from spreading to other parts of the state.

This is the first outbreak of bird flu reported after the state has been bifurcated.

The outbreak of the disease had an immediate impact with the Telangana Poultry Breeders Association stating they were facing a loss of over ' 50 crore through lost sales.
