'Game of Thrones’ world's most popular illegally downloaded TV series
Washington: American fantasy drama 'Game of Thrones' has been named as world's most popular illegal download TV series so far.
According to piracy monitoring service Irdeto, which monitored illegal TV downloads for two months earlier this year, and found the TV series to be increasingly popular as some 116,000 copies of the show were downloaded each day on average, or 812,000 in any given week, the Mashable reported.
According to reports, illegal downloads of the show are up 45 per cent year on year and the show is 27 per cent less popular in Russia this year but in India, downloads are up a staggering 155 per cent.
Rory O'Connor, Irdeto's Vice President of services, asserted that 'Game of Thrones' continues to be wildly popular in countries like Brazil and France, where a service like HBO now could be a good way to recapture some revenues.
AMC's 'The Walking Dead' is the only close competitor to ' Game of Thrones', which seems appropriate given the many documented similarities between the two shows.
