Multiple power firms trouble: Telangana
Hyderabad: Experts have questioned the rationale behind allowing multiple companies to sell power to consumers within a supply area and warned it would compound the sector’s problems.
Ismail Ali Khan, chairman of the TS Electricity Regulatory Commission implementation, said the provision for multiple supply licensees was riddled with practical difficulties. He was speaking at a national conference on the changes brought to the 2003 Electricity Act here on Friday. Experts said governments should not allow private power developers to sell power outside the state.
“The developers want to utilise the resources in the state concerned, create pollution, damage livelihood sources of locals, ignore demand for power in the state and sell their power wherever they get a higher price,” M. Venugopala Rao, convener, Centre of Power Studies said.
