KCR gets to keep his Delhi MP bungalow

The Tughlak Road bungalow was allotted to Rao when he was Union minister

New Delhi: With Telangana yet to have a full-fledged state guest house in the national capital, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will continue to retain the bungalow that he was occupying as an MP with the BJP government on Thursday allotting it under state quota.

Sources said Mr Rao, also the TRS chief, was allowed to occupy his 23, Tughlak Road residence under the state quota. They also said that Telangana does not have a separate state guesthouse as of now and some guests are put up at the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan.

The TS government’s request for retaining the bungalow stemmed from the fact that the AP Bhavan, currently being shared by TS as well, has only one Chief Minister’s cottage which is being used by Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Even before the allotment, Mr Rao was staying in the bungalow whenever he visited Delhi after he took over as TS Chief Minister. The Tughlak Road bungalow was allotted to Mr Rao when he was Union minister during the UPA’s first regime and he retained it under the UPA’s second tenure as well as he continued to be an MP.

“Mr Rao has been allowed to retain the house he was allotted as Union minister (23, Tughlak Road) within state quota,” a senior official told Deccan Chronicle.

The AP Bhavan, the official guesthouse of the Andhra Pradesh government located in Lutyen’s Delhi, is now split between the two states.

Adopting the 58:42 ratio, AP state is utilising 36 of the total 62 rooms in the whole premises, while Telangana is allotted 26 rooms.
