Girish Karnad joins protest against beef ban
Bengaluru: If you are a beef aficionado and live in Karnataka, beware! Bengaluru city police might descend on you and take away your meal! DYFI leaders who spoke out against the beef ban in Maharashtra, at Town Hall on Thursday evening, sat down with plates of beef biriyani as a mark of their protest. As soon as they did this, they were surrounded by a swarm of policemen who confiscated their plates of food!
This happened immediately after noted playwright and author Girish Karnad expressed his views on the law, calling it “Silly, wicked and deliberately doing injustice to a respectable section of the people. We are not forcing anyone to eat beef, then why ban it for someone who wants to? It has been passed in Maharashtra now and then will be soon applicable for the rest of India and this must be stopped.” The angry protesters, however, didn’t let the matter rest there and with angry cries of “Namma Ahaara. Namma Hakku” (our food, our right) and “Dhikaara Dhikaara”, around 30 of them set off for Ulsoor police station to get their food back! They were stopped immediately by the cops milling around and a heated argument ensued. DYFI General Secretary, Rajshekhar, who coordinated the event, was not available for comment.
