Telangana encounter: Injured cop dies, son undergoes surgery
Siddaiah had suffered bullet injuries in Saturday’s encounter with terrorists
Hyderabad: Sub-inspector D. Siddaiah’s three-day-old baby boy is undergoing surgery for congenital disease at Rainbow Hospital. But before being shifted there, on Tuesday, the child was first taken by his grandparents to his father, who was admitted in the ICU of Kamineni Hospital at LB Nagar.
Little did they know that Siddaiah would die at 4 pm. He had suffered bullet injuries in Saturday’s encounter with terrorists. Three bullets were removed from his body after an eight-hour surgery. But one in his head could not be removed due to continuous bleeding, stated doctors. He was given 40 units of blood but his condition deteriorated and had to be put on life-support.
The grief-stricken family were running between the two hospitals as family members were following up with discharge formalities in the hospital while the child’s mother, Darsina, and his grandmother were at Rainbow Hospital.
The baby was delivered on Saturday, same day Saddaiah was injured. While he was undergoing surgery, his wife gave birth. The newborn had breathing problems and doctors at Kamineni Hospital attended to him.
A senior doctor at Kamineni Hospital said, “We carried out scans and found that the child had a congenital problem and would require surgery. As the condition of the inspector was deteriorating the family was very distraught but our counsellors explained the condition to the mother and she agreed to shift the child to Rainbow Hospital.”
The doctors at Rainbow Hospital are now attending to the child. Incidentally, Siddaiah was worried about his wife as she was in advanced stage of pregnancy and wanted to go on leave. Siddaiah’s friend Praveen Kumar said, “He had applied for leave as his wife was in an advanced stage of pregnancy but he returned to duty when the manhunt was launched.”
Siddaiah had joined the force in 2012 and was serving at Atmakur. His body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem and arrangements are being made to shift it to Jadcheria.
