Film industry reacts to Marathi films to be screened at prime-time
Mumbai: The recent news of Marathi films being screened at the prime-time slot in all multiplexes across Maharashtra has irked not one but many souls in the industry.
Prime-time slots being the bread and butter for the makers to swoop in their target audience, is of a lot of importance in the industry. While the news has come as a shock to the film industry, it has also amused the cine-goers.
In addition to this new rule Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has also made it compulsory to play a song in honour of late Dada Saheb Phalke, before the national anthem is played in the cinemas.
This new directive was most likely created as a method to counter the Mahrashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and the Shiv Sena’s ‘Marathi manoos’ campaign. The CM however has warned Shive Sena and MNS against creating a commotion outside multiplexes if they do not conform to the new law immediately.
The film industry has reacted strongly to this news, here’s what they have to say:
You cannot thrust anything on anyone zabardasti. If it is good it will survive otherwise..Cinema is also a business.Big monies involved

Why only 1 show of a Marathi film? Deserves much more respect & dignity. Theatre owners shud be involved 2 achieve this goal. #MarathiCinema

No more pop corn at multiplexes in Mumbai? Dahi misal and vada pav only. To go better with the Marathi movies at prime time .

Dear Outragers, its compulsory for Multiplexes who got incentives in the name of Marathi cinema. You don’t have to see it if you don’t want.

I don’t see what’s wrong if Marathi film industry gets impetus. Isn’t that everyone wants? Only if they can add Indies(non-starrer) with it.

Nothing wrong in CM @Dev_Fadnavis mandating multiplexes to show #MarathiCinema at prime-time, in one of their theatres.

Coming to think of it. It would be a great idea to have some #PauBhajji at multiplexes to spice up the bland sandwich n nachos menu :)

I don't think my cable network shows any Marathi channels in HD. Should we do something about that as well?

If @Dev_Fadnavis is serious about promoting Marathi cinema, he should announce a grant for filmmakers who develop & produce Marathi movies
