State affairs: Hyderabad polls on Telangana’s agenda
Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao convened a Cabinet meeting for today wherein certain crucial decisions are expected to be taken.
The sudden Cabinet meet also gains importance in the wake of the recent encounter with SIMI terrorists in Nalgonda where two TS cops were killed.
Sources said that issues pertaining to the Telangana State Public Service Commission, notification for employment, new school syllabus entailing inclusion of the statehood movement, prominent personalities of TS, and other state-related issues are expected to come up.
Another key issue on the anvil is approval of delimitation of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and increasing the number of divisions from the present 150 to 200.
Following a High Court directive, the state government is trying to speed up delimitation of GHMC divisions and hold elections for the civic body at the earliest.
However, the main issue haunting the government is demand for employment notification, the delay of which had affected the TRS in the recent MLC elections to the Hyderabad-Ranga Reddy and Mahbubnagar constituencies.
Osmania University students are on the warpath demanding issue of job notifications as promised by the TRS during polls. It has been delayed due to delays in the division of government staff between Andhra Pradesh and TS.
Steps for augmenting drinking water in towns and villages during summer and ensuring uninterrupted power supply to domestic, farm and industry may also be discussed.
