Final gift: Accident victim’s organs donated

Man hit by car declared brain dead; kidneys, liver, heart donated

Hyderabad: Family members of Hari Kumar, a victim of the March 26 accident at the Gachibowli signal, have donated his organs under the Jeevandaan scheme. Hari’s brother Ajay Kumar agreed to donate the 40-year-old’s kidneys, liver and heart after the treating neuro-surgeon at Apollo Hospitals declared Hari brain dead.

Hari was on ventilator as he sustained severe injuries when the bike he was riding along with his wife and son was hit from the rear by a speeding car at Gachibowli signal.

His wife, Soni Ramchandani, too had sustained severe head injuries. Both of them had been admitted by passersby to Himagiri Hospital. Soni died on March 27.

Hari was later shifted to Apollo Hospitals for better treatment. However, his condition deteriorated further. The doctors and grief counsellors who counseled Mr Ajay Kumar, who then gave the consent for organ donation.

A senior doctor had earlier explained , “The impact of the accident had led to severe injuries in the body and despite heavy dosage of medication, there was no improvement in his condition.”

Hari worked as a manager in a hotel and his wife was working with a software company. His four year-old son, the only survivor of the accident, is being taken care of by Hari's brother.

While the culprit Shwetabh Kumar who was behind the wheel in the car is absconding and the Gachibowli police are on a look out for him.
