Andhra Pradesh, Telangana State tiff hits medical admissions
Hyderabad: Nearly 50,000 students from AP and TS appeared for Andhra Pradesh’s PG entrance examination and are still awaiting admissions.
As per the Medical Council of India schedule, counselling was to begin in the first week of April but the TS government stopped it, stating that it would conduct its own admissions. Even the fees for PG medical courses are yet to be finalised.
The issues can only be solved if the CMs or health ministers sit together resolve them. MIC rules stipulate that the three rounds of counselling should be completed by May 31 and classes should begin from June 1.
There are, however, concerns that if Telangana sticks to its stand of conducting its own admissions, the counselling will be delayed by two-three months. The reason being that the Telangana State Health University cannot become functional without the appointment of a VC and registrar.
Officials say even if the Telangana government takes up the exercise on a war-footing now, it will take at least three to four months to make the health university functional and in a position to conduct admissions, which means it has to agree for counselling to be conducted by NTRUHS to save the academic year of students.
“We cannot do PG admissions unless both the governments come to an agreement,” said Dr T. Ravi Raju, vice-chancellor, NTRUHS.
