Indian ice hockey team seeks funding help on Twitter
With 15 days left for Asia cup, the team is still struggling for funds
Mumbai: India has a ice hockey team and it needs our help. What may come as a suprise to many is a matter of pride, since the Indian ice hockey team is scheduled to participate in the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Challenge Cup of Asia Division 1 in Kuwait later this month.
The team on its Twitter handle has launched a funding campaign because the sport is lesser known and sponsorship budgets are therefore limited. The National team conists of army jawans from Ladakh, members of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and local students - is coached by a former trainer of an American ice-hockey club in Long Island, Adam Sherlip, who spends his winters in Ladakhi villages teaching ice hockey to locals and spotting talents.
Please support our Ice Hockey team travelling to Kuwait. We need to raise funds for the team. A 20k donation will cover costs for 1 player.

It is so tough to push sports like Ice Hockey when cricket takes up all sponsor budgets. We have a national team and are begging for money.

According to reports, each player is shelling out around Rs 20,000 from his own pocket for the trip, in addition to their own petty expenses during the stay in Delhi and later in Kuwait. While popular games take away the limelight, we hope sports enthusiats will help this national team meet their cause and boost their moral.
