BJP National Executive to discuss Land Bill today
Bengaluru: The land acquisition bill, which is facing stiff opposition from several quarters will be discussed in the BJP's ongoing national executive on Saturday with the party insisting that it is "farmer friendly".
A presentation will be made on the legislation on Saturday, and is also expected to figure in the resolutions adopted by the party on the second day of its strategy meet.
Party sources said they are planning a massive campaign, under which Bharatiya Janata Party workers will reach out to the people and convey the message that the bill is not anti-farmer.
Strong defence of the legislation came from Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as BJP president Amit Shah.
"Farmers have been forced to sell their land off so that they can pay bribe to get a job for their children... Land records will be reformed so that farmers get back their land. For this, we will launch a big campaign," Modi said at a public rally here.
Shah, speaking at the beginning of the national executive meet this morning, said party workers should confidently say that their government has not done any amendment to the land acquisition act, which is anti-farmer.
