Can rallies win BJP its lost momentum?

BJP leaders felt that all efforts must be channeled towards revitalising the party

Bengaluru: Realizing that the initial euphoria over the party’s landslide victory in Lok Sabha polls in 2014 has ebbed, and that negative vibes are beginning to set in among people, top leaders of BJP on Friday decided to carryout a “mid-course correction” to revive the party’s fortunes through a series of rallies across the country.
The prospect of a “mid-course correction” evolved during a discussion on the political situation in the country on the first day of the party’s national executive. The leaders discussed the pre-poll promises, the performance of the ten month-old government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, victories in some states, and the setback in New Delhi. Some of them were candid in their admission that people have not experienced any noticeable change though the Union government launched initiatives like ‘Swachh Bharat,’ ‘Jan Dhan Yojana’ ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ or even reforms in Indian Railways. They also felt that a degree of pessimism has set in among people, and therefore all efforts must be channeled towards revitalising the party, a senior leader told Deccan Chronicle.
The leader said the decision to organise a series of rallies across the country to publicize about reforms envisaged in the Land Reforms Ordinance. The party would also encourage its workers to participate in ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign and Mr Modi’s plan to clean the Ganga. “We are going to rope in our new members too to reach out to the people and thus expand our support base further so that we will be ready to face elections in states even if they are held ahead of schedule,” the leader added.
