Hyderabad: The police arrested a 70-year-old man from Oman for marrying a 17-year-old girl through a ‘contract marriage’. The accused, identified as Qameez, had allegedly lured the victim’s mother by paying her Rs 1lakh for the marriage. The minor girl, who did not want to get married, alerted the police. The police arrested Qameez and four brokers including a woman. According to the South Zone police, the accused had approached the victim’s family in Hafeezbabanagar through brokers. He contacted the minor girl’s mother and paid her '1lakh. He then married the girl on Thursday. However, the girl contacted South Zone DCP V. Satyanarayana on Friday and told him about the forced marriage.
“After getting the information, I sent a patrolling party. Qameez, four brokers, including a woman, were arrested,” said Mr Satyanarayana. A case was booked under relevant Sections of The Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and others.
