Lamborghini rams into road divider in Delhi, driver flees
New Delhi: A Rs 5 crore Lamborghini Murcielago crashed into a road divider near India Gate in the heart of the national capital on Wednesday night after the driver lost control over the machine and walked off after the sports car was wrecked.
The car did not have the registration number plate and police are now trying to identify its owner through registration number they found from the papers inside his car.
The incident came to light in the middle of the night when Constable Tej Pal, posted in the Tilak Marg police station, was on night patrol from 11 PM to 5 AM.
"At around 1:15 AM, he saw a yellow colour high-end car at the divider of Copernicus Marg near the Hexagon C-circle. When he went near the car to check, he noticed that the car was badly damaged and its driver abandoned it. It seems that the driver left on foot after crashing it," said a police official.
The car was brought to Tilak Marg police station. All its tyres and the rear left portion of the car were completely damaged, he added.
A case under Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act has been registered with Tilak Marg police station.
"Somebody must have taken the sports car for a late-night spin as the roads are usually deserted and stepped on the gas not knowing its extreme acceleration capabilities," said another police official.
