Hyderabad: The decades-old three-storeyed Jabbar Building at Begumpet will be demolished by the middle of April. The GHMC and Hyderabad Metro Rail have already issued a month’s notice to the five legal building owners, as per the orders of the High Court.
The interiors of the first and third floors have been demolished. Three shops on the ground floor are yet to vacate the building. With the removal of the Allauddin Mount wall, a 40-feet extra carriage way has been cleared.
Three properties are to be demolished to make space on the Begumpet stretch where the Metro Rail works are on in full swing.
Chintavar building, around 393 square yards, is to be knocked down, with a compensation of Rs 1.94 crore for the owner. The second is the Allauddin building compound wall (adjacent to Shopper’s Stop) where 666 sq yards has been knocked down after paying out Rs 2.14 crore. The third is Jabbar building where 635 sq yards (front portion, located opposite Reliance Trends at Begumpet) will be demolished by paying a compensation of Rs 5.87 crore.
Over 10 years, the five legal owners of the Jabbar building had been approaching the court against the demolition. The High Court directed the GHMC and the HMR to issue a month’s notice to the owners and then carry out the demolition.
HMR managing director N.V.S. Reddy said, “With the removal of Jabbar building and the wall of Allauddin building, the Begumpet road will be an additional 40 feet width (three-lane carriageway). The Allauddin compound wall has already been removed; the Jabbar building will be demolished by April second week once the notice period is over.”
Elsewhere, all major traffic hurdles between Mythrivanam to Lakdikapul-Nirankari Bhavan are to be removed to ease traffic congestion and the road widened. Ramps would be constructed over graveyards on these routes. The committee has also decided to build multilevel parking complexes on government open spaces from Moazamjahi market to Nampally.
The GHMC will also construct 600 bus shelters across the twin cities and the RTC has been requested to identify locations. Traffic lights will be installed at all uncovered junctions.
That apart, if all goes well; the GHMC is to provide skill training to the youth particularly of the old city, jointly with the police department. The GHMC and the police department are to frame eligibility criteria to train the youth.
