Telangana to get 2 power plants in Karimnagar district
Karimnagar: Executive director of the National Thermal Power Corporation’s power station in Ramagundam R. K. Srivastava said that two 800-mega watt plants would be established in the town this year, once the land for ash pond was handed over to the corporation. Mr Srivastava spoke to media in Ramagundam on Tuesday.
The corporation will set up the plants as part of the assurance given by Union government to provide 4,000 MW power to Telangana state under the AP Reorganisation Act.
Talking of the corporation’s efforts, Mr Srivastava said that the new plants (each 800 MW) would come up in the land next to the existing station. The board of directors of the corporation approved feasibility report and gave their nod to establish the plants.
Bidding process for erecting the plants has begun. SCCL has given its consent to supply coal. Securing nod from the environmental department will be done only when ash pond’s land is given to the corporation, he said.
State government is trying to allocate 400 acres of land required for ash pond. Some pieces of land are available near Kundanpalli village on the outskirts of the town and near TSGenco’s power plant. Either of these lands can be granted to the corporation for the purpose of the ash pond, he hoped. The plants would be commissioned within 36 months of time after foundation stone is laid. A sum of Rs 9,500 crore would be spent to erect the plants by inviting internal bidders.
