Andhra Pradesh: 7-year-old child gets branded by mother with hot iron rod
Vijayawada: A seven-year-old child suffered severe burns when his mother branded him with a hot iron spatula. She wanted to stop him from playing outside.
The incident took place on March 28 but came to light on Tuesday when locals at Ajit Singh Nagar noticed severe burns on the buttocks and waist of Namala Durga Rao. The child, an UKG student, was unable to walk properly.
His mother N. Maheswari alias Prabha is a daily wager, and his father N. Raghavulu is in prison. The child has been rescued and placed in a state-run home.
Child welfare officials, who were tipped off, said Durga Rao used to quarrel with kids in the neighbourhood and his mother and the other parents got involved in it.
Following this, the other parents approached the Ajit Singh Nagar police, who settled the issue.
Prabha said that she thought the boy would not be so badly injured; she only wanted to frighten him against playing in the streets.
