Minorities Commission asks UP government to reinvestigate Hashimpura massacre

Faizabad: The Uttar Pradesh Minorities Commission on Monday asked the state government to order a probe into the 1987 Hashimpura massacre to investigate the matter from the beginning and unmask all the culprits, and the Commission has also asked the state to probe the role of those responsible for the acquittal of all the accused. All the 16 surviving accused Provincial Armed Constabulary personnel in the 1987 Hashimpura massacre case were on March 21 acquitted by a Delhi court of charges related to the killing 42 Muslims who were picked up from a village in UP's Meerut, with the judge giving them benefit of doubt.

Taking cognisance of the acquittal, the Minorities Commission asked the state to take necessary steps to provide justice to the families of the victims who were brutally killed on May 22, 1987. Talking to PTI, Shafi Azmi, a senior member and spokesman of the Commission said, "We have written to the state government to take all necessary steps in providing justice to the families of the victims."

"We have asked the government to order a probe to investigate the matter from the beginning and unmask all the culprits of the massacare of Hashimpura and also those responsible for the acquittal of all the accused.

"The Commission has also asked the state government to move the High Court against the judgement of the lower court with full preparation," he said.

Welcoming the move of the Commission, senior advocate and vice chairman of Babri Masjid Action committee, Mushtaq Ahmad Siddiqui said the state government must form a SIT in Hashimpura massacare case in order to unmask all those behind the incident.
