Skin diseases likely to increase in summer

Bacterial infections spread fast due to perspiration; doctors advise not to eat spicy foods
Hyderabad: Eighty per cent of skin problems like heat boils, rashes, fungal and bacterial infections increase in summer due to rising temperatures. With the summer setting in, perspiration and dehydration makes the body lose a lot of minerals. The increasing temperatures do not allow eating properly and many people suffer from lack of appetite which also results in vitamin deficiency.
Dr D.B.N. Murthy, dermatologist explained, “During summer there is excess sweating causing allergies, fungal and bacterial infections. They require treatment. With too much of junk food and cold drinks and the heat there are flare-ups in teenagers.”
The major problems are bacterial infections which spread fast due to photo-toxic effects and perspiration. Many women suffer from allergies caused by jewellery. Dr Laxmi Sharda said, “There are some women whose skin is very sensitive to metals and during summer when they wear these accessories rashes develop around the neck and wrist. Men who wear tight belts also suffer from darkening of the skin around the waist and severe irritation.” Some develop severe heat boils on the back as their skin does not have enough place to breathe because of tight clothes. Due to this cotton clothes, loose clothing, light colours and a healthy regime is suggested. While there many who concentrate on facial skin there is a need to look into the problems of the foot, back and private parts where there are often rashes and which aggravates into infection if proper care is not taken.
Dr C Laxmi explained, “Using anti-fungal powder on the neck, back and underarms is recommended for those who have excess perspiration. Those with a history of fungal infections must take these preventive measures as it helps to keep them free from these problems.
