Hyderabad: Most punters in Hyderabad consider New Zealand an unlucky team and favours Australia to win the cricket World Cup. In over based bets most punters prefer New Zealand’s bowler Trent Boult, while in individual score based bets, Steve Smith and David Warner are their favourites. Bookies say the number of punters have come down since India is out of the tournament as many ‘patriots’ are not ready to put their money now.
“New Zealand is in their best form in this world cup and they have the best team that could beat Australia. But they are unlucky when it comes to big tournaments. Australia on the other hand is a very lucky team. Also, it’s their home ground. So most punters will bet on Australia,” said an organiser from Secunderabad.
Australian batsman Steve Smith is going to be the favourite of punters. “He will be the first player to hit a half century in five consecutive World Cup innings if he hits 50 runs in this match. Many are going to bet on him whether he will make it or not,” said a bookie.
For the betting on outcome of single overs and six overs punters will prefer Trent Boult and Australia’s Mitchell Starc. "Both of them have scored 21 and 20 wickets respectively in the tournament. So, there will be bets on who is going to take the most number of wickets,” said a punter.
Unlike earlier matches more bets will be on the total outcome of the match other than bets on the outcome of overs which used to be the trend in previous matches.
Soon after semi-final matches ended the organisers have advertised through secret WhatsApp groups and FB groups to attract new punters for the final. The organisers are making sure maximum bets are placed before the match begins.
