CAG finds irregularities in ear implant ops

The state government had extended financial assistance to 'totally hearing challenged' children

Hyderabad: The CAG has found several irregularities in cochlear implant surgeries done under Aarogyasri health insurance scheme. The audit report revealed that 154.91 crore was spend on 1,056 cases, However, in several cases, the names of beneficiaries were not found in the list of people who took the auditory verbal therapy which follows the surgery and costs nearly Rs 1.3 lakh for each person.

The state government had extended financial assistance to “totally hearing challenged” children below 12 years of age belonging to BPL families to undergo cochlear implant surgery at the cost of Rs 5.2 lakh in network hospitals. The surgery must be followed by the auditory verbal therapy. Till March 2014, around Rs 54.91 crore has been released.The CAG verified 114 records at the Government ENT hospital in Koti and it revealed that in nine cases, the hospitals had applied and obtained Rs 5.8 lakh for AV therapy. However, the names of the beneficiaries were not found on rolls in attendance register of AV therapy.
