Irregular power cuts continue in Hyderabad
Officials say no emergency load relief has been enforced till date
Hyderabad: Power disruptions, for whatever reason, have been continuing in and around the city at irregular intervals. While the officials claim that the disruptions are due to repairs, maintenance works as well as faulty DTRs and fuse wires, the citizens are often forced to sweat it out for at least two-three hours.
As per official records, in the last few days, power outages have been taking place at S.D. Road, Marredpally, Musheerabad and the IT corridor. The power supply also went off for two-and-half hours in the ORR region and Medchal.
Chief general manager of Metro Zone U. Satish Kumar Reddy has categorically said that no ELR (emergency load relief) has been enforced till date. “We don’t find it necessary,” he said. “This is examination time. How can power supply be stopped now? We have been attending to the works wherever there are trips and transformer problems” he added.
The power demand has suddenly shot up in the city, as the temperatures have been on the rise. Till Monday, it was around 1,020 MW, though by Wednesday it had increased to 1,158 mw. Officials estimated that the demand would go up to 1,450-1,600 MW in the next two months.
“We are prepared to supply uninterrupted power to all consumers in the city, be it domestic, industrial or commercial even if the demand crosses the 1,650 mw mark. There is nothing to worry about,” Mr Satish Kumar Reddy assured.
Maintenance and repair works have also increased in the city mainly due to faulty lines, outdated tranformers, low quality of fuse wires, and other electrical material. “We have been slowly updating the existing ones and wherever there is a trip, we take that as an opportunity to change the equipment,” a senior official of operations said.
