Teacher set afire by her colleague in Hyderabad
There was a dispute between the two over a new school they were going to open
Hyderabad: In a gruesome murder, 32- year-old school teacher was burnt alive by her colleague in her own house at Alkapuri colony in Bodupal on Tuesday. T. Sridevi, the victim, died on the spot while the accused, Shivaprasad, fled before the cops reached the crime scene. Medipally police officials said that there was a dispute between the two over a new school they were going to open, and the quarrel lead to the murder.
According to the locals, a girl in the neighbourhood saw smoke and fire coming out of the victim’s house in the afternoon and alerted the local residents. They broke into the house and found the accused and victim inside. However, Shivaprasad escaped before he was caught, while the victim was already dead.
“We got the information from the locals. They also informed Sridevi's husband and relatives. The accused had poured kerosene and set Sridevi on fire. The fire spread rapidly and people outside noticed the smoke and blaze,” said Medipally SI Shiva Shankar Rao.
Sridevi, who was working in Rishi School at Uppal, had planned to open a new school. She and Shivaprasad have been colleagues for many years and decided to become partners.
However bitterness crept in due to finance and other aspects of the venture. “On Tuesday, he came to her house to discuss the issues. Her husband and other family members were not in the house. We suspect that during the discussion, they must have started an argument that later turned out be a physical fight. He then attacked her and planned his escape,” said the SI.
The victim’s husband Satyanarayana lodged a complaint with the police alleging the murder. After verifying the versions of few eyewitnesses, cops booked a murder case against the accused under IPC section 302. Medipally police have formed a special team to nab the absconding accused.
