Watch: Group of commuters litter Mumbai local train daily

The video was shared by another daily commuter on social media

Mumbai: For all those who live in Mumbai and have taken the local train for daily commute, have more often than not met fellow co-passengers who litter the local train . Well-dressed office-goers enjoy munching packaged chips, chocolates and sipping soft drinks. And before you know out goes the wrapper or the cup! For that matter, used train coupons and old season tickets find abode on the platforms or beneath the seats of local trains.

Prithy Surekha, a daily passenger in the train recently took to social media and shared a video of what we perhaps witness daily. The video shows a group of commuters who huddle together and eat snacks and chit chat during their journey. The video caption says " while travelling in the evening I encounter this group of men travelling in the first class compartment daily. They play cards, chew paan, order snacks from Bandra platform and then throw all the leftovers below the seats." Surekha has tried to stop the men from scattering garbage but "they have been arrogant and unapologetic."
The video highlights the Indian mentality of how dirty their houses may look but have no guilt in littering public spaces. Similarly an average Indian prefers a public park to the living rooms, bedrooms or private gardens to relieve themselves.
According to reports, the railways spends around Rs 5 crore every year to clean its suburban rakes of paan and gutkha stains, but it is a losing battle till they get support from the commuters themselves.
