Parents fight for money under girl child birth scheme
Hospital asked couples to go to mandal revenue office to verify papers
Hyderabad: Patients and their attendants created an uproar at the Government Maternity Hospital in Petlaburj for Rs 600 that the government promises every couple on the birth of a child. Despite submitting papers, Aarogyasri and also Aadhaar card number, N. Krishna and his wife, from Shadnagar, have not received the amount. On Monday, they visited the hospital for a check up of their baby girl who was born on December 23, 2014.
Mr Krishna said, “My two older children were also born here and I was given the money immediately. But now they are asking me to go to the mandal revenue office to verify the papers and only then will they give the money.”
When Mr Krishna complained, four other couples who had been waiting for their payments too started arguing with the duty doctor, demanding the payment. A major argument ensued and the parents were not ready to listen to any excuse.
Senior doctor at the hospital, Dr Sridevi, said, “The administration has been asked to verify the details and only then reimburse the amount to the parents. This is taking some time. Earlier these measures were carried out at the hospital level. Now they are being done by the Revenue department, hence it’s taking longer.”
