Hate speech: Delhi cops file FIR against Asaduddin Owaisi

The case has been lodged for allegedly delivering a hate speech

New Delhi: The Delhi police on Monday informed a Delhi court that they had lodged a case against All-India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader and MP Asaduddin Owaisi for hate speech.

The court had earlier directed the Delhi police to lodge a case against Mr Owaisi for allegedly delivering a hate speech. The case against Mr Owaisi has been lodged with the Central Delhi’s Farsh Bazaar police station.

Additional station house officer of Farsh Bazaar police station, who was present in the court, submitted a copy of the FIR along with the compliance report.

Ajay Gautam a social worker and priest, had filed a plea before the court seeking registration of a case against Mr Owaisi for making an inflammatory speech with an intention to hurt the sentiments of a particular community.

The Delhi police has booked Mr Owaisi under Sections 153(A) (promoting enmity between different groups), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 121 (waging war against India), in addition to offenses under various sections of the IT Act.

The complainant said that on June 5, 2014, he had read an article in the online edition of a newspaper in which Mr Owaisi had allegedly delivered a speech against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He had said he found that it was not the first time that the AIMIM leader had delivered “hate speech and created terror and fear” in the minds of one community.

The complainant had sought lodging of an FIR for promoting enmity between groups on grounds of religion, criminal conspiracy and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace among other charges.
