Justice denied: Defected MLCs to retire ahead of court hearing
Hyderabad: A few of the MLAs who had joined the TRS, against whom disqualification petitions are pending, are going to retire on March 29, making the process infructuous.
Apart from others who had defected to the ruling party, Congress MLCs K.R. Amos, N. Rajalingam, K. Yadava Reddy and TD members Balasani Laxmi-narayana and Bodakuti Venkateswarlu, against whom the respective parties had filed petitions, are also set to retire on March 29.
A single sitting of the Telangana Legislative Council is remaining, on March 27, for the approval of the Appropriation Bill, which has to be passed by the Assembly, after which the Council will be adjourned sine die.
It is also expected that the House will bid farewell to the retiring members including Leader of Opposition D. Srinivas.
“The petitions filed against some of the MLCs who joined TRS sought disqualification of the members for their alleged defection in contravention to the Constitution, but in this case, nothing can be done as they are going to retire,” an official of the Telangana Legislature told DC.
Though the Congress and TD had filed petitions to the Council ch-airman seeking action against the defectors, Swamy Goud had giv-en three months or mo-re, as sought by the me-mbers, to offer their ex-planations on the petit-ions. The ministers ha-ve still not submitted them. Now some of the members are retiring.
“What is the use of our petitions? No acti-on has been initiated against the defected MLCs,” said TD Leader Arikala Narsa Reddy.
Interestingly, the matter is coming up for hearing before the High Court on March 27, the last day of the Council.
Leader of Opposition and senior Congress leader D. Srinivas will also retire this month end.
