Hyderabad: Hostellers go on rampage after protest
Hyderabad: A quarrel between a group of students and the management at a private hostel in Nizampet turned ugly when the mob set fire to furniture and mattresses in the building.
Police had to be called in to quell the violence as the rampage went on for hours. The incident took place on the campus of the Sri Chaitanya Boys’ College at Nizampet sometime after midnight on Friday.
According to sub-inspector Janaiah, over 300 students, who lived in the hostel, went on a protest after the management apparently refused to provide them with basic facilities.
“Students said that they have been having problems in getting regular water supply in the hostel. And despite several complaints, the management had done nothing. On Friday night, they started agitating and a few protesters torched furniture within the building,” the SI said.
The management has not lodged an official police complaint.
