Burnt woman identified as CA student from Krishna district in Hyderabad

Pujitha was identified by her relatives based on her belongings

Hyderabad: The body, which was found burnt in the GHMC park within the high-security Officers’ Colony at Panjagutta, has been identified as that of 20-year-old chartered accountancy student Pujitha Vasireddy.

Pujitha, of Nandigama in Krishna district, was identified by her relatives based on her footwear, earrings and other belongings. Later, when her parents, Srinivas and Annapurna, reached the city on Saturday, they too identified the body.

Police officials have also recovered a note from the student’s house which says that she was depressed over not finding a job.

“Mummy I love you,” the note read. “Don’t want to live anymore. Even Rohitha (Pujitha’s sister) has secured a job, but I couldn’t. Thought would be happy after my CA, but it didn’t work. Wanted to committed suicide by hanging at home only but later changed my mind and will end my life elsewhere. I took '2,000.”

S. Mohan Kumar, Punjagutta inspector, said: “Her relatives have confirmed her identity. Her body has been released to the family.” Cops have confirmed that this is a case of suicide.

Punitha’s relatives, who arrived in the city on Saturday after hearing the news reports, said it was indeed her. “We identified her based on the leggings, earrings and sandals. She had come here and met a male friend. Both had gone out shopping and she had bought him a shirt too. She was later dropped by him. We suspect she committed suicide due to depression,” a relative told this newspaper.

It is believed that the male friend is one Akshay Kumar, a bank employee and Pujitha’s former classmate. A year ago, she was in Hyderabad for the coaching classes, during which time she stayed at her uncle’s house and in a hostel. Cops have now brought in Akshay for questioning and are checking if he has any role in the case. Police is pursuing multiple angles in the investigation.
