Did IAS officer DK Ravi burn fingers in real estate business, too?
Bengaluru: Did IAS officer D.K. Ravi’s unsuccessful real estate venture coupled with strained family and personal relationships drive him to commit suicide?
According to highly placed sources Mr Ravi along with a friend, Suresh, and another person floated a real estate firm and Ravi had invested his father-in-law Hanumantharayappa’s money to the tune of over Rs 50 crore in this venture. The land purchased and the agreements entered into during this business was in the name of his associate Suresh, as Ravi, a government official, did not want to break the rules by getting into the business.
Meanwhile, Suresh after getting huge land registered and entering into agreements dissociated himself from Ravi.
This did not go down well with Ravi and he felt deceived, said sources. When he wanted to get Suresh arrested for cheating, the latter took the support of a senior politician who shielded him. Ravi was disappointed and dejected when his efforts to make the best of his father-in-law’s financial resources failed miserably, added sources.
This was a major loss of face for Ravi. To add to his problems, he was also undergoing fertility tests as the couple was childless which was a cause of his frustration.
Ravi was a self-made man and did not share his woes and miseries with anyone. In the absence of a godfatherly figure in politics or the bureaucracy, he was simmering with frustration, said sources adding that the mounting pressure and personal reasons might have made him commit suicide.
