Venkaiah Naidu turns the tables on Sonia Gandhi
New Delhi: Rejected Sonia Gandhi’s accusations of the government’s apathy towards Andhra Pradesh, parliamentary affairs minister M. Venkaiah Naidu seeking to turn the table on the Congress asking why the party took nine years to arrive at a decision on Telangana.
“I am happy the Congress president, at last after nine years, nine months and nine days and then after the election, is now remembering Andhra Pradesh… and thankful to Madam also. Madam, this promise was given in 2004,” he said.
“Why was that (Special Status) not included in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, which would have made it easy for the government to act?” he asked.
Mr Naidu said the Central government was very keen on taking the Act forward and reminded the members of the House that the Polavaram Ordinance was the second decision taken by the Modi Government in its first Cabinet meeting after assuming office. “There is no question of going back on anything said during the debate in the Rajya Sabha and all the issues will be addressed to the satisfaction of the people,” he said.
