Secunderabad Cantonment Board colonies to get composters soon

The composters are a part of the solid waste management project

Hyderabad: As part of its solid waste management project, the Secunderabad Cantonment Board will start construction of a centralised compositing station in Turkapally for dumping organic waste.

The station will be used to dump kitchen and other organic waste collected from locals. “Bins will be placed in colonies for segregated dumping of wastes. Composters will be built in every colony for composting kitchen and organic wastes,” said an SCB official with the Sanitation and Health wing. Authorities will also be holding talks with residential welfare associations on implementation of the solid of waste management plans, which have been adopted from the Panaji model of Goa, and also on garbage segregation and collection of service fees.

“We are scheduling meetings with residential associations regarding our plans for which they need to cooperate. The residents will be given colored recyclable bags for segregation of wastes at the household level,” said the official.
