Salman Khan hit-and-run case: Drama as police argues with lawyer
The lawyer requested the Sessions judge to allow him to re-examine Rajendra Kadam
Mumbai: The trial in the hit-and-run case involving Bollywood star Salman Khan witnessed high drama on Tuesday with the prosecution and defence making a certain application, which was objected by both the parties and the retired senior police officer having a heated conversation with the defence lawyer while in the witness box.
The defence wanted witness to look into the copy of Bombay Police Manual and answer certain question,n but the officer was adamant that he would answer only if he was given an original copy to look into and he will not touch the photocopies. The judge had to intervene to calm down both of them.
The actor’s lawyer, Shrikant Shivde requested the Sessions judge to allow him to re-examine Rajendra Kadam, the first investigating officer in the case, to confront him with few omissions and contradictions with regard to the section of culpable homicide not amounting to murder that was added against his client at a later stage and there was no occasion for defence to put these questions to eye-witness Ravindra Patil because he had died.
Though special public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat objected to the application, Judge D.W. Deshpande asked him to file his written reply on the next date.
On the other hand, public prosecutor also made an application to take on record few letters written by investigating office Kishan Shengal to Andheri and Wadala RTOs and the excise department during the investigation of this case. The letters asked whether the driving licence was issued in the name of the actor or not.
