This meeting of producers at KJo’s office will change starry tantrums scenario in the industry

They laid down rules regarding the expenses incurred during film promotions

Mumbai: With so many movies in the recent past failing to rake in 'moolah' at the box office, it has taken a huge toll on the producers. A few days ago, prominent filmmakers and producers got together and took a call on the manner in which money will be spent on film promotions. Sometimes, so much money is pumped into the marketing of the film that it increases the budget of the film. In such scenarios, it becomes difficult to recover the cost if the film has a dull start on its opening day.

So to come out with a solution, a meeting was held at Karan Johar’s office earlier this week. It was attended by Mukesh Bhatt, Sajid Nadiadwala, Ekta Kapoor, Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap, Ashish Patil, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Vijay Singh, Ajit Andhare, Sunil Lilla and a few others. The idea behind the meeting was to draw some rules regarding the expenses that a producer spends during film promotions.

The print and advertising budget is usually between Rs 6-10 crore. But the producers argued that it is not always that high budget promotions translate into business. Recently, films like ‘Badlapur’, ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ and ‘NH 10’ were cleverly marketed without spending too much and fared well at the box office.

That's not the only topic that is worrying these creative minds. Also for a long time, producers have been bearing the star’s personal costs as well. The cost of a star's personal trainer, personal manager, driver, hair stylist, make-up artist, that burden is also taken care by producers. Mukesh Bhatt in a recent interview shockingly admitted, " As a producer it is humiliating that we pay a star’s spot boy more money than our chartered accountant."

It was then unanimously decided that stars would now have to pay for these costs themselves. Karan Johar, who is considered a strong voice in the fraternity wrote on Twitter-

The producers plan to hold this meeting every two months. A limit would be set on television advertising in the next discussion. Additional costs like make-up man, hair dress and spot boys would also be put in place.

Let's see which producer actually follows these rules when it comes to their own movies.
