Sex worker’s rape complaint changed
Hyderabad: A 28-year-old woman approached the police alleging that she was gangraped by three men in Puduru mandal of Ranga Reddy district on Sunday night. Though police arrested the three men, it was later revealed that the complainant was a sex worker and she had lodged the police complaint only because the men had not paid her.
The Chevella cops, who are investigating the case, refused to book a rape case, and altered it to an immoral trafficking case.
The woman had first claimed that she managed to escape from the clutches of the three men with the help of villagers. She claimed that she was abducted in an autorickshaw.
“We arrested three people — M. Srinivas, Danayya and E. Mallesh — following her complaint. We later found out that it was a case of consensual sex,” said Chevella circle inspector Upender.
The trio abandoned the woman and fled without paying her. After the men were arrested, the cops questioned the complainant again. She then confessed that she lodged the complaint since the trio refused to pay her.
“Since it was not a rape and she had given her consent, we did not book a rape case. We instead booked a case under the Immoral Trafficking Act, and sent the three accused to judicial remand,” said the inspector.
The woman was sent to rescue home, and the police officials said that they will further investigate the case.
