Hyderabad High Court raps cops for parade of accused
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday criticised the police for showing off arrested accused during press conferences and asked: “Is it to show your heroism?”
A division Bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar was dealing with a plea by the AP Civil Liberties Committee represented by its general secretary Kranthi Chaitanya, seeking to direct the CBI to register a murder case against former SP of Warangal district V.C. Sajjanar and other police personnel who had participated in the killing of three youth, including two students, allegedly involved in an acid attack in Warangal district in December 2008.
Mr V. Raghunath, counsel appearing for the petitioner, alleged that the police had taken the three accused into custody and had paraded them before the media and then taken them to a place near Mamunoor hillock — where the accused had reportedly hidden the material used to target the two girl students — and then killed them while alleging that they had attacked the cops while trying to escape.
