Mosquito bite bugs GHMC

The mosquito menace is especially bad in colonies in Begumpet

Hyderabad: The GHMC has miserably failed to curb the mosquito menace in Greater Hyderabad.

The corporation itself has claimed that the two techniques it adopts —anti-larva operation and fogging — have proved unsuccessful.

Syed Samiullah from Jyothi Nagar, Mehdipatnam, said, “We have a mosquito problem 365 days a year. We regularly complain about this and I have heard that our area MLA has made GHMC officials spray daily at his residence at Sardar Bagh, Ring road. But there are no measures to save us from this daily problem. We spend more then '1500 monthly on precautions but they are of no use and the sprays are harmful for our children as well.”

The mosquito menace is especially bad in colonies in Begumpet facing the Necklace Road and Hussainsagar, Sainikpuri near Kapra Lake, Uppal, Durgam Cheruvu, Alwal, and areas surrounding the Musi River.

Several complaints have been pouring in from many areas from the twin cities but officials have identified only Ziaguda, Chengicherla, Amberpet, RTC crossroads and Bholakpur as the worst hit.

Jaleel Khan, a resident of Bholakpur, however, said that residents in the locality were suffering from diseases due to mosquito bites and even after several complaints, there had been no response from GHMC officials.

Poor sanitation is not the only reason for the increasing number of mosquitoes.

Most localities suffer due to water stagnation, open slaughterhouses and other reasons, which lead to the breeding of mosquitoes. Heaps of garbage which can be spotted in most localities are an added problem.
