Hyderabad: After partition, CCTVs installed in buses
Hyderabad: The RTC has installed surveillance cameras in 1,200 buses in the city, and CCTV cameras at a few bus stations to curb eve-teasers, pickpockets and to allay the security concerns of passengers. The RTC will install the cameras, costing up to '10,000 a piece, in the entire fleet.
This comes just weeks after the women’s section was partitioned. That operation has not been totally successful in keeping male passengers out of the women’s section.
However, the CCTV output is not monitored in real time. The pictures are checked only if need arises. However, the system currently stores images for three days before it is overwritten with fresh images.
RTC officials say that the recordings have been very helpful to the police who scan the images when they are checking for a suspect.
“Many thieves and eve-teasers could be nabbed by the police after checking the recordings. We do not have adequate workforce to monitor the recordings in real time or otherwise,” said a senior official.
